    Central New York turned more purple and blue in this presidential election compared with 2004.

    More towns in Cayuga, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties voted Democrat, and Republican margins of victory narrowed while Democrat margins of victory grew wider.

    Democrats Outnumber Republicans in Onondaga County

    The number of registered Democrats in Onondaga County has increased by more than 10,000 since 2004, while the number of registered Republicans has fallen nearly 6,000. Democrats now outnumber Republicans by more than 8,000.

    Port of Oswego Slated for Container Shipments

    By 2011, the Port of Oswego could become the only American port in Lake Ontario capable of handling overseas container shipments. Port officials predict two to three container vessels will stop at the port weekly, creating a 24-hour-a-day operation.

    The Oswego facility would tie-in with a larger $300 million container terminal under development in Nova Scotia.
