SU-Richmond: The Happy Recap
by Brent Axe
Tuesday November 18, 2008, 9:47 PM
So, which Eric Devendorf story do you want to talk about from yesterday?
The one where he overcame a terrible first half to score 11 straight points in the beginning of the second half and help spark his team to a 76-71 win over Richmond...

OR
As we learned on Tuesday, the one that was at the center of the investigation by the District Attorney's office for allegedly hitting a woman in the face among other things.
What do you say we start with the basketball stuff and we'll work our way to *clears throat* that other stuff.
A popular theme in the locker room after the game was that this was the type of game Syracuse would have lost last season.
That happens to be a theme I agree with and Eric Devendorf is a big reason why...

The pink elephant has finally left the room.
Greg Robinson will coach two more games and then his tenure as head coach of the Syracuse University Football team will be over.
Finally.
No matter what happens in the next two games, Robinson will walk away with the worst four-year stretch in the history of Syracuse Football on his resume.
We all knew the move was coming, but peace of mind has finally arrived to many Syracuse Football fans who have been sooooo ready to move on from the Robinson era for some time now...
SU-Lemoyne Recap
by Brent Axe
Sunday November 16, 2008, 10:44 PM
You know, its funny.
As the days passed on another miserable SU Football season, we all couldn't wait for the 2008-09 SU men's basketball season to begin.

Then on the day the basketball season officially began, all anyone was talking about was football.
Greg Robinson was indeed fired on Sunday, but the safely employed Jim Boeheim and his basketball squad started out the 2008-09 season with a 85-51 win over Lemoyne at the Carrier Dome.
Even Boeheim had Robinson on his mind after the game...
New Beginnings

Halftime here at the Carrier Dome as I type this and Syracuse Basketball leads Lemoyne 38-19.
But that's not what on your mind...is it?
A new basketball season may be officially underway here, but a new era of Syracuse Football is also about to begin.
Are you taking all this in? Not that it was a big surprise that the hammer dropped today, but it was still surreal to head to what I thought would be a "I saw some good things" Greg Robinson presser only to learn it was much more....

Well, the festivities just wrapped up here at Manley. I'm going to jet over to the Carrier Dome and take in some hoops.
Much, much more to come later from Daryl Gross, Greg Robinson, players and more.
I'm also going to attempt to take a breath somewhere in here as well.

Daryl Gross Quotes
by Brent Axe
Sunday November 16, 2008, 5:03 PM
On why to do it now and not the end of the season..
"I think we needed to put an end to rumor, speculation, to uncertainty. We wanted to put the community at rest. To give our players a chance to go play Notre Dame and focus on that and not a coaching status that over the weeks just turned into a volcano of uncertainty. So it ends all that speculation. We are out of bowl contention, we have two games left on the road and two games I feel we can concentrate on. It is a fun game to go to South Bend, and I hope our student athletes are excited about that."
On when Gross let Robinson know he was fired...
"Well, we have been talking about football every week. We communicate very well. He is a great guy, he is a very professional football coach who understands the nature of big time athletics. We continually talk. Greg always talked about the tipping point. We got to Louisville, we had a nice game there and we still weren't out of bowl contention. But obviously we had a lot of work to do and this was on the full body of work. The first year is always going to be rough with that transition, but year two, year three you want to see that improvement. I think we wanted 5 (wins) in year three and maybe six or seven this year. We didn't go in that direction obviously. It became obvious to him, us, and you guys. So, its time to just talk about it."

Wow...what a whirlwind.
As you know, Greg Robinson has been officially let go as head coach of the Syracuse Football team.
I'm currently at Manley awaiting Greg Robinson's press conference. In the meantime, I am going to get up some quotes from a media session I was just in with Syracuse A.D. Daryl Gross. Hopefully I'll get some video up as well.
Stay tuned. More to come.

SU-UConn: Sorting Through the Rubble
by Brent Axe
Saturday November 15, 2008, 11:48 PM
The last Syracuse Football game of the season at the Carrier Dome is not supposed to come as a relief.
It is not supposed to be a time to wish the seconds on the clock were moving faster.

It is not supposed to be an occasion where maybe you wished you bought tickets to the Syracuse Crunch hockey game going on that night at the same time instead of buying tickets to see UConn play Syracuse.
It is supposed to be a sad time, but sad because there is no more football left. Sad because it will be 9 or 10 months (put aside the spring game) before you see your Orangemen back in the Carrier Dome.
Not this kind of sad.
But all those things, and many more I'm not mentioning, entered the minds of Syracuse University Football fans as they watched Connecticut beat Syracuse 39-14 on Saturday to cap the home portion of the 2008 Football schedule...
